Section settings and content binding
Every section on a page has its own settings. When you select a section, the settings panel on the right lets you change its content, pick a different look, and control how its fields connect to your record's data. This page explains what those settings do and why some fields behave differently from others.
Opening section settings
- Open a page, post, or product in the builder.
- Click the section you want to edit on the canvas.
- The right-hand panel switches from the general settings to that section's settings.
The panel header shows the section's family name and, below it, the name of the current variant. Click the X in the header to deselect the section and return to the page settings.
Choosing a variant
At the top of the section settings is the variant picker. A variant is a different visual style for the same section, and each variant comes from your active theme. Click a variant to switch to it. Your content is kept when you switch, so you can try different looks without re-typing anything. See Themes for more on how variants and themes relate.
Base fields vs variant fields
Section settings are grouped into two areas:
- Base holds shared content that survives variant changes. Anything you enter here stays put when you switch to a different variant.
- Variant holds fields that only the selected variant uses. Switch variants and this group changes to match. If a variant has no special fields, this group is hidden.
In both groups you edit fields the normal way: type into text boxes, pick media, toggle switches, and choose from dropdowns.
How fields connect to your data
Most fields are just section content. But some sections are bound to the record you are editing, such as a product's price or a post's title. For those fields a small pill appears next to the label that tells you how the field is connected. There are three behaviors.
Section-local fields
These have no pill. The value lives only in this section and does not touch your record's data. This is normal for headings, paragraphs, buttons, and most decorative content. Edit them freely.
Read-only fields (From ...)
A locked pill labeled From [field] (for example, From price) means the value comes from the record itself and cannot be edited here. To change it, edit that field on the record. For a product you would change the price in the product's own settings; for a post you would change the title on the post. The section will show the new value automatically.
Synced fields (two-way)
A pill labeled Synced with [field] means editing here also updates that field on the record, everywhere it appears. For example, editing a synced title in a hero section also updates the page title.
You have control over this link:
- Click the Synced with... pill to unlink the field. The section now keeps its own custom value, and the pill changes to Unlinked.
- To reconnect, click the Unlinked pill. You will be asked which value to keep going forward:
- Use page [field] discards your custom value and re-syncs with the record.
- Update page [field] pushes your custom value onto the record and then re-syncs.
Use unlinking when you want a section to show something different from the record without changing the record itself.
Page, post, and product settings
When no section is selected, the panel shows settings for the whole item, such as Title, Slug, Excerpt, Meta Description, and (for products) Price, SKU, Currency, and Featured. These are the source values that read-only and synced section fields point back to. You can also choose a Template for the item here.
