Archives
An archive is the page that lists all entries of a post type, like a blog index or a product shop. This page shows you how to pick the layout for that list, including the overall preset, the shell that arranges the cards, and how more entries load as visitors browse.
Where archives are configured
Archives belong to a post type, not to a single page. You set the archive look once on the post type and every listing for that type uses it.
- Open your website workspace, then go to Post types at
/dashboard/websites/{website}/post-types. - Click a post type to edit it, or create a new one.
- Scroll to the Presentation card. This is where the Default template and Archive preset live.
The preset you choose here is the kit default for that post type. Leave nothing selected to keep the theme's own default look.
Pick an archive preset
The Archive preset field shows a grid of choices, each with a live preview thumbnail and small chips that tell you the card style and the loading behavior.
To choose one:
- Find the preset you like in the grid.
- Click it. A checkmark appears on the selected preset.
- Click it again to clear your selection and fall back to the kit default.
Presets are filtered by the post type's kind. Article-style presets show for blog post types, product presets show for product (shop) post types, and general presets show for everything.
Presets in the Minimal theme
- Editorial magazine - a hero feature story with a quiet thumbnail sidebar for follow-ups.
- Photo journal - a balanced three-column grid of image-led article cards.
- Article list - dense article rows with a small thumbnail, built for reading-heavy sites.
- Product shop - a clean product grid with imagery, name, and price.
- Product lookbook - large imagery-first product tiles with overlay badges and price.
Presets in the Bold theme
- Bold magazine - a high-contrast lead story flanked by bold secondary coverage.
- Editorial dispatch - a dense article feed with thumbnails and tight rows for news or journals.
- Product catalog - a clean product grid with imagery, name, and price.
- Product launch - hero product tiles with dramatic imagery and overlay badges.
Each Theme ships its own presets, so the exact names and styling change when you switch themes.
How the shell arranges cards
Every preset pairs an archive shell (the layout wrapper) with a card style (how each entry looks). The shell decides whether entries flow into a grid, a single column, a timeline, and so on.
The available shell layouts are:
- Magazine - a lead feature plus secondary entries.
- Grid / Split grid - even columns of cards.
- Masonry - a staggered, Pinterest-style grid with variable heights.
- List - one entry per row.
- Timeline - entries stacked along a dated timeline.
- Story rail - a horizontal, scrollable rail of stories.
- Catalog - a tidy product-grid layout for shops.
- Editorial - large, imagery-first tiles.
- Lookbook strip and Dense wall - imagery-heavy strip and tightly packed wall layouts.
The shell is system-owned: you choose it indirectly by picking a preset rather than dropping it into a page like a normal section.
Loading behavior
Each preset comes with a default for how more entries appear as a visitor reaches the bottom of the list. The three options are:
- Paginated - keeps archives stable and easy to scan page by page.
- Load more - adds one clear button that reveals more cards in place.
- Infinite scroll - loads more entries automatically as visitors scroll.
The chip on each preset card shows which behavior that preset uses, so you can match the feel you want before selecting.
Saving and next steps
After you pick a preset, save the post type. The new archive layout applies to that type's listing page right away. To change the look later, return to the same Presentation card and pick a different preset, or clear it to return to the kit default.
