Media library
The Media Library is where every image, video, and file for your website lives. Upload files once, then reuse them anywhere in the builder. This page walks you through uploading, editing, replacing, and deleting media, and explains how your storage quota works.
Open the Media Library
- Go to your dashboard at
/dashboard. - Open the website you want to work on.
- In the workspace sidebar, click Media.
You land on the Media Library page at /dashboard/websites/{website}/media, showing a grid of everything you have uploaded.
Upload files
You can add files two ways:
- Click Upload files in the top right and pick one or more files.
- Drag files from your computer straight onto the drop zone that reads "Drag and drop images or videos here."
You can upload several files at once. While they transfer, the button shows "Uploading..." When it finishes, your new files appear at the top of the grid.
What you can upload: images and videos (and audio and common documents such as PDFs). Each file can be up to 500 MB. For security, SVG files are not accepted.
If an upload fails, a short red message explains why, for example if a file type is not allowed or you are out of storage.
Find a file
Use the search box above the grid to filter by name, caption, or alt text. Results update as you type. When you have a lot of media, use the Previous and Next buttons at the bottom to move through pages (24 files per page).
Edit a file's details
Click any file in the grid to open its detail panel on the right. There you can see the file name, size, type, image dimensions, and when it was uploaded.
To edit it:
- Update the Title / Caption field.
- Update the Alt Text field. Alt text describes the image for screen readers and search engines, so write something meaningful.
- Click Save changes. The button shows "Saved" when it is done.
Good alt text and captions also make files easier to find later through search.
Replace a file
If you need to swap out a file but keep it in the same place, you do not have to delete and re-upload it.
- Open the file's detail panel.
- Under Replace file, click Choose replacement.
- Pick the new file.
The new file takes the place of the old one. Note: sections that already use this media need to be re-saved in the builder to pick up the new URL.
Delete a file
You can delete a file from the detail panel with Delete this file, or by hovering over a file in the grid and clicking the trash icon.
Before deleting, agencms checks where the file is used and tells you. If the file is in use, you will see a warning like "This file is used in 3 places." Deleting it leaves broken images in those sections until you update them. Deleting cannot be undone, so replace or remove the file from those sections first when you can.
Storage quota
All media counts against a single storage quota for your account, shared across every website you own.
- The header shows how much storage is left, for example "Storage 4.2 GB left."
- When you pass 80% used, a yellow banner warns that storage is almost full.
- When you hit the limit, a red banner appears, the upload button is disabled, and the drop zone tells you to delete files or upgrade before uploading more.
Your limit comes from your plan. To free up space, delete files you no longer need. To raise the limit, upgrade your plan from your account settings under /settings. Some plans include unlimited storage, in which case the header simply reads "Unlimited storage."
Use media in the builder
Anywhere a section needs an image or video, you can pick from this same library using Choose from media library. Files you upload here are instantly available throughout the builder, so it is worth uploading and tidying your media before you start designing.
