Members and roles
Organizations let you work on websites together. This page shows you how to invite people, choose what they can do, accept an invitation you received, and manage or remove members later.
You manage everything from Settings → Organization at /settings/organization. Only the organization owner can invite, change roles, or remove people.
Roles
Every member has one role. Roles control what someone can do across the organization.
- Owner — Full control. The owner manages billing, seats, members, and can delete the organization. There is one owner per organization, set when the organization is created. Ownership is transferred, not invited.
- Admin — Can manage websites and content.
- Editor — Can manage websites and content.
- Member — A standard member with the most limited access.
When you invite someone or change a role, you can choose Admin, Editor, or Member. Owner is not an option in those menus.
Before you invite
Inviting members requires an active subscription with an available seat.
- If you have not set up billing yet, the email and role fields are disabled and you will see "Billing is required before inviting a team member." Choose Subscribe to set up a plan first. See Plans and subscriptions for details on your subscription.
- If all your seats are in use, you will see "All purchased seats are currently used. Add seats to send more invites." Use Manage seats to add more before inviting.
The Team members panel shows your Used, Available, and Active members counts so you always know how much room you have.
Invite a member
- Go to Settings → Organization (
/settings/organization). - In the Members section, type the person's email address in the Email address field.
- Pick a role from the dropdown (Admin, Editor, or Member).
- Choose Invite.
You will see "Invitation sent" and the person is added to the list with an Invited badge until they accept. An email with a secure invite link is sent to that address. The link expires after 7 days.
You cannot invite the same email twice, or invite someone who is already a member. If you do, you will see "This person is already a member or has a pending invite."
Accept an invite
If you were invited, open the invitation email and select the accept link.
- Select the link in your invite email.
- If you are not signed in, you will be sent to the login screen first. Sign in (or create your account) with the email the invite was sent to, then the link continues automatically.
- Once accepted, you join the organization and land on the dashboard with a "You've joined..." confirmation.
A few things to know:
- The invite must be opened with the same email address it was sent to. A different account sees "This invitation was sent to a different email address."
- If you already joined, you will see "You're already a member..." instead.
- If the link is older than 7 days, it is no longer valid and the owner needs to send a new invite.
Change a member's role
- Go to Settings → Organization.
- Find the person in the members list.
- Use the role dropdown next to their name and pick the new role.
The change saves immediately. You cannot change the owner's role, and you cannot change your own role.
Remove a member or revoke an invite
- Go to Settings → Organization.
- Find the person in the members list.
- Select the trash icon next to them.
- Confirm in the dialog. For a pending invite this is Revoke invitation; for an active member it is Remove.
You cannot remove the owner or yourself. Removing someone frees up their seat.
Leave an organization
If you are a member (not the owner), scroll to the bottom of the Organization page and choose Leave organization, then confirm. You will lose access to that organization's websites and need a new invite to rejoin. The owner cannot leave; to step away, transfer or delete the organization instead.
